Pilot · Ireland and Europe · 8 weeks
Join the pilot
The pilot is open to shellfish and seaweed growers, harbours and boat operators in every bay of our catalogue, in Ireland and across Europe. You use this app for eight weeks alongside your normal routine. The aim is to find out whether the signals, the weekly brief and the assistant are right often enough, and early enough, to be worth acting on at your site.
Grower, Bay / co-op and Port / tourism plans, and custom quotes for insurers, are on the pricing page.
What the pilot is
- Your bay. Any bay in the catalogue. A bay that is not live yet is set up from its open data once your application is approved: the Copernicus Marine regional ocean model and satellites, ERA5 weather and, in Ireland, the nearest Marine Institute buoy and tide gauge within reach and the HAB bulletin areas named after the bay.
- Eight weeks, ideally across a change of season so the thermal and bloom signals have something to say.
- No hardware to buy from us. The signals come from Copernicus marine and satellite data, ERA5 weather and Marine Institute buoys and bulletins. The one thing we ask you to place is a cheap temperature logger of your own at stock depth, so the model can be checked against your water.
- Your data stays yours. Records are only ever used for your own site, never compared across operators, and are deleted or returned within 30 days of the pilot ending unless you ask us to keep them.
What you do
- Before the start: sign the consent and data note; hand over your last two to three seasons of harvest and mortality records as a CSV; place the temperature logger; give us 30 minutes for a walk-through of the app.
- Every week: read the weekly brief when it arrives on Monday morning and tell us if a line was wrong or useless; ask the assistant two questions in your own words about your own site; add one diary line for each decision the brief had a hand in.
- Every fortnight: upload your harvest and mortality CSV; add a photo when something looks odd (gaping, discoloured water, fouling).
- Every two to three weeks: read the logger and upload its CSV.
- Twice in the eight weeks: a 45-minute interview at the mid-point and a 60-minute exit interview.
What you get
- Your sites, species and working limits set up, and the five signals for your site every day: thermal stress, bloom risk, runoff shock, operability and growing conditions. Work days are rated favourable, marginal or unfavourable for the activities you name; heat stress, bloom risk and runoff have their own levels (low, watch, stress, critical).
- A weekly brief on Monday morning, and an assistant that answers questions about your site from its own data only, with a source behind every statement.
- A skill table that shows how the model compared with your logger at your site, published to you at the mid-point and at the end, and the thresholds adjusted with you where the table says they should be.
- A post-mortem of any event in the period (storm, heatwave, closure) written up with you.
- A pilot price for business owners, shown at the top of this page with the date the offer ends. Nothing is charged when you apply: the price is locked in when your application is approved and billing starts later. Donations on the support page are separate and unlock nothing.
- Bloom risk is a regional signal and the bay is not verified by it: for shellfish closures follow the official bulletin, as you do today.
What we measure
- Skill against your logs: sea temperature against your logger at 7 and 30 days, waves against the nearest Marine Institute buoy where your bay has one, and operability days against your diary.
- Usefulness of the brief: a one-to-five rating each week and the number of lines you acted on.
- Time saved: minutes per week spent checking forecasts, bulletins and tide tables, before and at week seven.
- False alarms: days a signal read unfavourable that you judged wrong, per signal and site.
- Assistant quality: a hand review of answers for grounding, correct citations and plain favourable / marginal / unfavourable wording.
- Whether you would keep using it, asked in the exit interview.
Apply for the pilot
Tell us about your business, your licence and your sites. A person checks every application, including the licence document, and activates your account, usually within 2 working days. We then send the consent and data note and agree a date for the walk-through.

Decision support only, not a safety verdict. For shellfish closures follow the official bulletin. Coastal model values may come from a model cell several km from your site.
