Who supplies the data
Everything the signals and the assistant read comes from open data, plus the records you upload yourself.
- Copernicus Marine Service: IBI ocean model analysis and forecast; satellite chlorophyll-a (Sentinel-3 OLCI 300 m, multi-satellite 1 km) and multi-satellite sea-surface temperature.
- Copernicus Sentinel satellites: Sentinel-2 MSI imagery for coastal turbidity and the bay images, Sentinel-3 OLCI for chlorophyll-a.
- Copernicus Climate Change Service: ERA5 reanalysis.
- Marine Institute Ireland: buoys, tide gauges, HAB bulletins.
What each source is used for
| Source | Products | Scale | Used by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copernicus Marine, IBI analysis and forecast | Ocean physics (sea temperature, salinity, currents, mixed layer), waves, biogeochemistry (chlorophyll, nitrate) | regional, about 3 km | operability, thermal, bloom, runoff, growth |
| Copernicus Marine, IBI reanalysis | Sea temperature and salinity history since 1993 | regional | climatology for marine heatwaves and anomalies |
| Copernicus Marine, ocean colour and SST | Satellite chlorophyll-a (Sentinel-3 OLCI 300 m, multi-satellite 1 km) and multi-satellite sea-surface temperature | satellite, cloud gaps | bloom, growth |
| Copernicus Sentinel-2 (Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem) | Turbidity from 10 m scenes | satellite, cloud gaps | runoff confirmation |
| Copernicus Climate Change Service and ECMWF | ERA5 and ERA5-Land reanalysis, ECMWF open-data forecast: wind, rain, solar radiation | regional, 9 to 28 km | operability, runoff, bloom, growth |
| Marine Institute, Ireland | ERDDAP weather buoys and tide gauges | point: the station itself, which may be far from your site | model skill, tides |
| Marine Institute HABs database | Biotoxin status and phytoplankton counts per production area, weekly | official | events, the bulletin block |
| You | Logger files, harvest and mortality logs, notes, photos | site | skill, anomalies, citations |
Every stored value carries its source, product and scale, and forecasts carry their lead time. The data reference page of a site lists every dataset with its provider id, the series stored and the licences: demo site data reference. The official weekly Marine Institute HAB bulletin is the authority for closures.

The bay list
The bays in the bay selector come from public registers of licensed aquaculture, shellfish waters, production areas and ports, all under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence. A bay in the list is live only where the deployment serves it; the others are marked coming soon.
